Mentor Program for Those New to the Food Industry or in a New Role

Chicago Section IFT is excited to launch a new Mentor Program for those new to the food industry or in a new role. The focus of the program is on managing change and on leadership development. It is a program for members of Chicago Section IFT.

Mentors are required to have a minimum of 6 years of experience within their mentorship category to qualify as a mentor. There is no minimum or maximum experience cap for mentees.

The program includes the following:

  • Mid-August: Kick-off meeting to share program information, guidelines, expectations, and contracts.
  • End-August: Discussion of program details to answer any questions. Pairings shared.
  • 6 meetings (in-person or virtually) over 3 months – between September and November 2023. Each meeting is expected to be about one hour with the meetings occurring approximately every two weeks.
  • Early December: Wrap-up meeting to provide insights and feedback.

Session topics:

  • Meet & greet
  • Goal setting/career planning
  • Team leadership/managing a hybrid team
  • Overcoming post-pandemic food industry challenges
  • Navigating nutritional and regulatory updates
  • Take your mentee to work day or open topic
