Your mission:<\/p>\n<p>Responsible for development and evaluation of microbiology- and molecular biology-based methods. The incumbent designs and performs experiments related to molecular microbiology method development, validation, and verification and maintains documentation of research and development processes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main activities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plan, prepare, perform and analyze experiments related to molecular biology- and microbiology-based research and development projects, including assay development, method comparisons (validations and verification), and technology, software, and platform evaluations.<\/li>\n<li>Own assigned projects from start to finish using project management skills, including but not limited to defining project scope\/budget\/effort, communicating with stakeholders, executing experiments, establishing and delivering on milestones, and meeting project expectations and deliverables.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare effective, well-written data summaries, reports, and presentations to communicate results to the department and corporate management.<\/li>\n<li>Perform literature and nucleic acid sequence searches as necessary to investigate, understand, and plan appropriately for research and development projects.<\/li>\n<li>Document experiments and related activities by maintaining an up-to-date laboratory notebook and data files.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain inventory for research-related and routine-testing supplies for molecular microbiology testing. Set up, calibrate, and operate equipment in accordance with methods and standard operating procedures. Maintain records for equipment. Track costs and time for research projects.<\/li>\n<li>Present scientific findings related to research and development project work at scientific industry or professional association meetings and conferences and work with the Director, Microbiology R&amp;D, and R&amp;D team members to publish work in peer-reviewed scientific journals.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as a technical resource for the company as it pertains to molecular biology and microbiology.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate current methods and recommend modifications as new procedures, reagents, or equipment become available.<\/li>\n<li>Educate and train technicians or interns on correct procedures and new analysis methods.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain job functional knowledge related to microbiology and molecular biology by staying up to date with current scientific literature and technologies. This includes but is not limited to Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, metagenomics and metabarcoding, PCR and other amplification methods, real-time PCR, molecular serotyping, DNA sequence analysis, statistical analysis, and bioinformatics.<\/li>\n<li>This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures. This authority includes addressing resource needs to properly assure the appropriate type and amount of materials are ready and available for use.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure a safe working environment for the laboratory.<br \/>\nSupport corporate quality and continuous improvement process.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other related duties as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>YOUR SKILLS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working knowledge of molecular biology and microbiology possibly obtained from a Master\u2019s degree in a relevant technical field or from industry experience.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, statistical data analysis, and quantitative PCR analysis is desired.\u00a0\u00a0Competency with scripting languages (R, Python) and Linux programming environment is highly desired.<\/li>\n<li>Basic molecular biology and microbiology laboratory skills, including aseptic technique, are necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of the sample.<\/li>\n<li>Basic chemistry knowledge is needed to prepare media and reagents to the specification of the sample.<\/li>\n<li>Broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities to transfer samples into plates and tubes. Analytical skills are helpful to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism.<\/li>\n<li>Physical dexterity with pipetting, plating, and streaking is required. Well-developed interpersonal skills are required to build and maintain relationships across the corporation.
